The National Land Commission has commenced a ground verification and validation exercise in Mombasa County under the second Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP II), bringing residents one step closer to secure land tenure.
The exercise follows the completion of key preparatory stages, including finalized Local Physical and Land Use Development Plans, authenticated and approved Registry Index Maps, and approved List of Beneficiaries (LO
Bs) for Kibundani, Kidunguni II, Kikambala, Kisimani Kwa Ndegwa and Basra. With these steps concluded, the process has progressed to on-site verification to confirm readiness for issuance of ownership documents to enhance security of tenure.
Prior to field activities, a consultative session was held at the KISIP County Coordinator’s Office in Mombasa. The meeting brought together the NLC team, led by Principal Land Administrator Mr. Kenneth Kiplagat Mutai, County Coordinator Ms. Rose Munupe, the KISIP National Coordination Team, and county officials to align on procedures and field operations.
During the fieldwork, teams confirmed beneficiary details, validated parcel boundaries, assessed existing developments, addressed emerging disputes, and ensured consistency between approved plans and the situation on the ground.
The verification process lays the groundwork for issuing Letters of Allotment and subsequent ownership documents to eligible beneficiaries. Through KISIP II, the Commission is supporting structured land allocation processes aimed at strengthening tenure security and improving living conditions within Mombasa County.
