NAIROBI,
Friday, July 17, 2026 — The National Land Commission’s Piga Nduru Initiative today received a major boost following a strategic partnership between the commission and the State Department for Basic Education, aimed at accelerating the safeguarding and titling of public school land across the country.
National Land Commission (NLC) Commissioners FCPA Susan Oyatsi and Hon. Mary Seneta paid a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Basic Education, John Lekakeny Ololtuaa, to brief him on the progress and strategic objectives of the “Piga Nduru” (Raise the Alarm) Initiative.
During the briefing, PS Ololtuaa acknowledged that the State Department has been grappling with persistent challenges of school land encroachment, boundary disputes, and illegal acquisitions by private developers. He termed the NLC’s Piga Nduru Initiative a timely and critical intervention that will help arrest the existential threats facing the country’s educational institutions.
To ensure the success of the programme, the PS pledged his department’s full support, promising to walk with the NLC right from the initial data collection phase for the baseline survey until all public schools in Kenya secure their formal land ownership documents.
The NLC commissioners were accompanied by key members of the commission’s secretariat, including the Director of Land Administration & Management, Dr. Samuel Nthuni; the Head of the County Coordination Office, Molu Halake; and the Head of Corporate Communication & Advocacy, Walter Menya. Present also was the State Department’s Director of Administration Francis Mwei.
The joint effort is expected to dismantle the bureaucratic silos that have previously slowed down the multi-agency school titling programme.
