In a significant gesture of institutional continuity and tradition, the Chief Executive Officer Kabale Tache on Wednesday hosted Chairperson of the National Land Commission (NLC), Dr. Abdillahi Alawy, together with the current Commissioners, and their predecessor, Gershom Otachi, and retired Commissioners for a breakfast meeting.
The gathering, brought together past and present NLC leadership to foster unity, knowledge sharing, and mutual respect, underscoring a commitment to the Commission’s constitutional mandate that extends beyond individual tenures.
The meeting provided an atmosphere for warm and candid cross-generational dialogue regarding the evolution of land governance in Kenya. Participants discussed the ongoing challenges of the sector and the collective responsibility required to safeguard the nation’s land heritage. During the session, former Chair Gershom Otachi and former Vice Chair Gertrude Nguku, alongside other retired Commissioners, shared invaluable insights from their time in office. They reflected on the triumphs and difficulties of their terms, particularly the complexities of navigating resource constraints while balancing individual rights against the discharge of public duties.
On his part, Chairperson Dr. Abdillahi Alawy expressed his gratitude to the former leadership, emphasizing that the former Commissioners remain a vital part of the NLC family. He noted that their institutional memory and vast experience provide essential lessons that guide the current leadership in their decision-making. CEO Kabale Tache echoed these sentiments, thanking the former officials for honouring the invitation. “I must thank you former chair and your team, this is indeed a sign of good tradition and good will, I am very excited to be part of this transition,” the CEO said.
Serving commissioners namely Vice Chairperson Hon. Dr CS. Julie Oseko and Commissioners Hon. Mary Seneta, Hon. Mohamed Abdi, CHRP Vincent Kigen, Daniel Muriungi, FCPA Susan Oyatsi, and Hon. Tiyah Galgalo were present for the breakfast meeting. On the other hand, Mr Otachi was accompanied by former vice chairperson Nguku, and Commissioners Reginald Okumu, Alister Murimi, Hon. Dr. Kazungu Kambi, and Hubbie Hussein.
