The National Land Commission Commissioner Hon. Tiyah Galgalo has lauded the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a means of resolving land disputes in Kajiado County.
She said that the ADR Committee established by the Kajiado County Government with NLC being an active member have successfully resolved 550 cases across the county including Noonkopir in Kitengela, Namanga, Ilbissil, Rongai, Kware, Olekasasi B, Bulbul, and Olooloitikoshi.
Speaking in Kajiado County during land rights monitoring exercise, Commissioner Galgalo said ADR approach is a cost-effective, accessible, and culturally sensitive method of resolving land disputes that avoids the delays and costs associated with formal court processes.
she lauded the collaborative effort between the National Land Commission and other stakeholders in establishing functional dispute resolution mechanisms that have transformed the lives of thousands of residents across the county.
“The work being done in Kajiado County demonstrates what is possible when institutions work together with communities to address land disputes at the grassroots level. Land is our wealth, our heritage, and protecting it is at the heart of everything we do,” Commissioner Galgalo said.
The National Land Commission has from 2015 to 2025 have received a total of 1,846 cases, out of which 1,066 have been successfully resolved, representing a resolution rate of approximately 58 percent. Currently, 371 cases are ongoing while 409 remain pending, underscoring the continued demand for land dispute resolution services in the county.
While celebrating the achievements, the Commissioner called for renewed commitment to address the remaining 409 pending cases and the 371 ongoing matters, emphasizing that every unresolved dispute represents a citizen whose land rights remain insecure.
She was accompanied by Head of County Coordination Halake Molu, Principal Land Rights Monitoring Officer Esterina Dokhe , Kajiado County Coordinator Saida Isack among other officers.
