Nairobi, 28th October, 2024
The National Land Commission and the Kenya National Highways Authority have reached a consensus to address delays and concerns regarding the implementation of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project following a consultative meeting at the Commission’s offices on Monday October 28, 2024.
The project, which is crucial for enhancing regional connectivity and economic development, has faced delays due to challenges in the compensation of Project-Affected Persons (PAPs).
During the meeting, representatives from both NLC and KENHA deliberated on the need to streamline processes and expedite actions to address the project’s delays. A key focus of the discussion was the timely and fair payment of PAPs.
The NLC raised concerns about the grievances it has received from the affected communities and emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach to resolve these issues. The Commission stressed that addressing these grievances through a joint effort with KENHA would be pivotal in maintaining community trust and fostering a positive environment for the project’s progress.
In response, the Commission assured the KENHA team that despite the challenges discussed, it remains committed to seeing the successful implementation of the project.
