NLC CONDUCTS HEARING ON LAND DISPUTE BETWEEN TAITA TAVETA COUNTY VERSUS KWALE AND MAKUENI COUNTIES.

The National Land Commission (NLC) Chairperson Gershom Otachi, today chaired a hearing of a boundary dispute between Taita Taveta and Kwale Counties as well as Taita Taveta and Makueni Counties respectively.
This comes after the High Court determined that the National Land Commission should provide recommendations on the appropriate redress to resolve historical land injustices, double taxation and boundary dispute where there exist no clear legal mechanisms to resolve boundary disputes.
After receiving the submissions from all parties, the panel hearing the matter directed that the petitioner, Senator Okiya Omutata serve the parties present with copies of the petition after which the parties are to file their responses on the jurisdiction before they converge again for the hearing next month.
The Chair also pointed out that the commission will only extract the issues that fall under its mandate, which is the Historical Land Injustices. The commission after which will prepare a detailed report with practical and pragmatic recommendations.
Besides Mr Otachi, other members of the panel are Commissioners Reginald Okumu and Hon. Esther Murugi. Present also were Deputy Governor Taita Taveta H.E Christine Kilalo and members of the HLI secretariat.
