National Land Commission greenlights establishment of Kenya Utalii College in Trans Mara, Narok County

The tourism sector has received a major boost after the National Land Commission gave  the green light to Kenya Utalii College to establish a college in Trans Mara, Narok County, reinforcing the Commission’s key role in the implementation of the BETA agenda.
The Commission on Friday handed over the Certificate of Consent for the transfer of land from Ildolisho Primary School, Trans Mara, to Kenya Utalii College (KUC). The event, held at NLC headquarters in Nairobi, was attended by John Olultuaa, the Principal Secretary (PS) for Tourism, his team from the State Department of Tourism, representatives from Kenya Utalii College, and members of Ildolisho Primary School representing the community.
The ceremony was presided over by NLC Chairman Gershom Otachi, alongside Commissioner Reginald Okumu, CEO Kabale Tache, Director of Land Administration Dr. Samuel Nthuni, and other officials from the NLC Secretariat.
In his remarks, Chairman Otachi acknowledged the efforts of all parties involved, including the local community, the county government, the Ministry of Education, and the State Department of Tourism, in making the land transfer successful.
“Having Kenya Utalii College in this area will not only bring education closer to the people but also open doors for economic opportunities and community growth,” he said.
PS Olultuaa commended the NLC for facilitating the land transfer, highlighting the college’s potential impact on the tourism sector. Additionally, he encouraged KUC to engage with the community through projects that would deliver tangible benefits.
“This college will be a game changer for this region and the tourism sector as a whole. I urge KUC to remain actively engaged with the community through impactful projects that leave a lasting impact and tangible benefits,” he remarked. The PS also assured that his office would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to support the college’s construction and operations.
During the event, Kenya Utalii College was encouraged to make effective use of the land and establish strong ties with the local community. The establishment of KUC in Transmara was noted as an opportunity to expand access to education while driving economic growth in the region.
The KUC team expressed gratitude to the community for their support and pledged to develop the institution in a way that contributes to national development. They also emphasized their commitment to collaborating with the local population on community projects and initiatives.
The Commission is optimistic that the land transfer and construction of the college in Trans Mara will have a positive impact on the local community and the tourism sector at large.
