Make good use of the Guide to plan your parcels of land, Public agencies urged

NLC Chairman Dr. Abdillahi Saggaf Alawy has challenged Public agencies to make good use of the guide to plan their parcels of land.
Speaking during the launch of the guidelines for land use and management plans, the Chair said that the guide is a practical tool designed to strengthen land governance and improve land use planning across the country.
He challenged the public agencies to make use of the document, saying that this was the only way of ensuring that there is prudent use of the public land.
Speaking during the launch of the Guide at a Nairobi Hotel, Dr. Sagaaf thanked all participants, development partners, and donors for supporting the development and launch of the document.
He called upon the stakeholders and academia to continue supporting the initiative through research and knowledge generation.
On her part, Land Use Planning and Research Committee Chair Commissioner Hon. Esther Murugi noted that the guide will provide a practical framework to support public institutions in the effective utilization of land under their custody. She further thanked all stakeholders for their contributions and commitment to enriching the guide.
CEO Kabale Tache Arero described the Guidelines as a key milestone in advancing sustainable public land governance. She noted that the framework provides a standardized approach to help public agencies fulfil their legal obligations in planning and managing public land.
She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing technical support and oversight throughout the implementation process.
According to FCPA Nancy Gathungu, Auditor-General, who was the Chief guest during the launch, the guide aims to strengthen good governance, accountability, and sustainability in public land management.
“The guide will promote planning before development. This helps minimize conflicts and ensures that the interests of citizens are prioritized, thereby enhancing accountability.” Ms Gathungu added.
The launch was also attended by Controller of Budget Dr. Margret Nyakango, FAO Deputy Country Representative Hamisi Williams, NLC Commissioners Daniel Muriungi, FCPA Susan Oyatsi, Vincent Kigen, Mohamed Abdi, Hon. Mary Senata, CEO’s Mary Mwiti (COG) and John Okwiri (Technopolis Development Authority) and several NLC Directors.
