The National Land Commission (NLC), Chief Executive Officer Kabale Tache, on Tuesday joined Women’s Rights Advisor in the Executive Office of the President Ms. Harriette Chiggai during the launch of the Strategic Direction 2024. This initiative emphasizes a strong national commitment to advancing women’s rights, reflecting the President’s vision of empowering women across various sectors to foster prosperity and sustainable development.
In her address, the CEO highlighted the essential role that women occupy within the land sector. As part of the NLC’s mandate to address Historical Land Injustices (HLI), it is crucial that women facing HLI issues receive equitable treatment alongside men. Land allocation must acknowledge women’s contributions and secure their rights, with a commitment to at least 30% representation of women on community land decision-making committees. Furthermore, in cases of Compulsory Land Acquisition, the CEO emphasized that women must receive their fair share of compensation.
The CEO also reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to gender equality within its workforce, with women making up 52% of the NLC team. This representation strengthens our organizational capability, enabling the Commission to serve communities more effectively by integrating diverse perspectives and skills.
The NLC is proud to support the goals of the Strategic Direction 2024 and remains dedicated to promoting gender equity across the land sector, ensuring that land governance in Kenya is fair, inclusive, and reflective of women’s rights and contributions
