COMMISSIONING OF THE NAIROBI LAND JUSTICE WORKING GROUP

The National Land Commission Chairman Gershom Otachi on Monday joined the Chief Justice Lady Justice Martha Koome during the Commissioning of the Nairobi Land Justice Working Group at Milimani Law Courts.

Speaking during the event Mr Otachi said that the working group’s terms of reference come in handy in resolving some of the disputes being witnessed in Land sector in Nairobi County.

The Chair challenged all the stakeholders in the land sector to use a multi-agency approach in trying to resolve disputes.

The working group brings together different stakeholders in land administration, land governance and land justice in Kenya.

Tasks for the working group include; Identifying the root causes of land disputes in the identified five zones of Nairobi City County, recommending appropriate and effective interventions, identifying systemic challenges in the administration of land justice, recommending appropriate and effective interventions, formulating guidelines to be implemented in addressing endemic land issues in Nairobi City County amongst others.

On her part, the Chief Justice said the launch of the Nairobi Land Justice Working Group is a testament to the commitment of the Environment and Land Court, the dedication and collaborative efforts formulated in the conception of the multi-sectoral approach in expediting land justice in Nairobi County.

Lands Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Alice Wahome stated that the objective of the working group is to devise innovative ways to tackle land matters that arise further noting that the ministry is committed to working with the working group to realize its mission.

National Land Commission Director of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution Brian Ikol is one of the members of the working group.
