Narok Governor Briefed on SGR Phase 2B ahead of Groundbreaking

Narok Governor H.E. Hon. Patrick Ole Ntutu on Tuesday held a briefing meeting with officials from the Kenya Railways Corporation and the National Land Commission (NLC) ahead of the commencement of Phase 2B of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
The delegation, led by Kenya Railways Managing Director Mr Philip Mainga and NLC Director of Valuation and Taxation Mr Joel Ombati, paid a courtesy call on the Governor to update him on preparations for the Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba SGR project, whose ground-breaking is scheduled for March 20.
Construction of the railway line is set to begin in Emurtoto, Narok County, before extending through Nakuru, Bomet, Kericho, Nandi, Kisumu, Nyamira, Kakamega, and Busia counties.
In Narok County, the railway will span approximately 98 kilometres, traversing parts of Narok East, Narok North, Narok West and Narok South sub-counties.
Officials said the route has already been identified and that the KRC and NLC teams are currently undertaking the identification and sensitisation of project-affected persons along the 98-kilometre corridor.
Governor Ole Ntutu was also briefed on the anticipated impact of the project on parcels of land owned by the County Government of Narok. He pledged his administration’s support to the National Land Commission, the Kenya Railways and the contractor throughout the project’s implementation period.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Hon. Tamalinye Koech,, NLC Narok County Coordinator Ms Susan Kidemi, members of the Narok County Assembly and other officials.
