The National Land Commission (NLC) reaffirmed its central role in driving Kenya’s economic growth and promoting good governance, as CEO Ms. Kabale Tache Arero addressed media leaders at the 8th Annual Editors Convention in Kilifi.
The five-day forum, hosted at the Sun and Sand Beach Resort, brought together top editors and national institutions under the theme “Truth, Trust & Technology: The Place of Journalism in the Digital Era.”
During the opening ceremony, the Guest of Honour and Cabinet Secretary for ICT & the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo, emphasized the importance of strong relations between the State and the media. He announced that government advertising will now be distributed fairly across all media houses and paid for on time. He further revealed that a new Government Communication Policy is being developed to enhance how public institutions engage with citizens and the press.
Ms. Kabale echoed this commitment to transparency, noting that land remains the foundation of Kenya’s economic engine, powering sectors such as agriculture, energy, housing, transport, manufacturing and urban development. She emphasized that when land governance is clear and accountable, national development accelerates.
She highlighted the NLC’s ongoing work, including: Unlocking public land for major investments and county-level industrial growth, securing land for infrastructure projects such as roads, power lines, water systems and industrial zones, addressing historical land injustices to foster social healing and open land for productive use and
strengthening revenue systems through valuation, stamp duty assessments and regularization programs.
Ms. Kabale underscored the media’s crucial role in shaping accurate public understanding of land matters. In an age of misinformation, she reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to openness and collaboration with journalists.
She concluded with a powerful message: “By securing the ground on which development stands, we are helping build a stable, productive and equitable Kenya.”
