The National Land Commission (NLC) was honored to participate in the Kenya Land Alliance (KLA) Annual Members Baraza held at Ufungamano House, Nairobi, under the theme “Advancing Land Justice Through Collective Action and Policy Influence.”

During the Baraza, KLA unveiled its 2025 flagship publications, including Status of Land Governance, Undocumented and Disempowered, and Land Struggles of Our Time.

Representing the Commission, Mr. Ben Opaa Deputy Director Natural Resources management, Stephen Chebii Principal Advocacy and Robert Koech Principal Research Officer joined key stakeholders in reaffirming NLC’s commitment to transparent, equitable, and people-centered land governance.

In his remarks, Mr. Opaa emphasized the vital role communities and civil society continue to play in shaping Kenya’s land governance framework. He reiterated that all members of the public have the right to participate meaningfully in government processes.

Mr. Opaa also highlighted the opportunity presented by the new law that empowers the Commission to continue receiving Historical Land Injustices (HLI) claims, urging the public to submit new petitions.

Additionally, he encouraged women to amplify their voices on issues of property ownership and succession, emphasizing the importance of demanding and exercising their rights.

The NLC’s engagement in the Baraza underscored its leadership in championing land reforms and its readiness to collaborate with partners such as the Kenya Land Alliance to address emerging land issues across the country.

Together, we move toward a Kenya where land rights are respected, protected, and accessible to all.
