FAQ’s on Land Governance Launched

The National Land Commission (NLC) on Wednesday unveiled a Land Governance FAQ Handbook during a ceremony held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi. This innovative resource aims to simplify complex land laws and provide clear, accessible answers for all Kenyans, from farmers to community leaders.
In his remarks , NLC Chairperson Gershom Otachi said that the launch of the FAQs was designed to simplify complex land processes and empower citizens to engage with land administration confidently.
He thanked all the stakeholders who took part in the development of the handbook, noting that the handbook would go along way in enlightening the citizens further appreciating the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for its support through the EU–FAO Digital Land Governance Programme, which has bolstered Kenya’s digital systems and enhanced transparency in land management.
Speaking during the event, NLC CEO Kabale Tache emphasized that the handbook serves as a practical tool designed collaboratively with various stakeholders, including Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the State Department of Lands, the Council of Governors among others.
She highlighted the handbook’s role in bridging the gap between policy and practice, stating, “It takes complex law and translates it into simple, usable answers.”
“The resource captures key reforms from the past decade and prepares communities for future challenges, including climate change and technological advancements.” Stated the CEO
While thanking the stakeholders who participated in the designing of the handbook the CEO said that all the land governance and land questions have been in the handbook.
The launch coincided with the graduation of a new cohort of GIS and Remote Sensing specialists, emphasising the integration of technology in land governance. I
The event also showcased successful county initiatives, demonstrating how GIS technology is transforming land management across Kenya. As counties like Vihiga and Makueni adopt innovative land information systems, the NLC calls upon local governments and civil society to disseminate the handbook widely, ensuring it reaches every citizen.
With this launch, the NLC aims to foster a land governance system that is transparent, fair, and effective, reinforcing the importance of citizen engagement in the management of land resources.
The event was graced by Nyeri County Governor H.E Mwalimu Kahika Mutahi who also serves as Council of Governors Vice Chairperson, ISK President Erick Nyandimo, EU Ambassador to Kenya Amb Henriette Geiger, FAO Representatives Dr. Nyabenyi Tito Tipo, Council of Governors Chief Executive Officer Mary Mwiti, Director of Survey Weldon Maritim, NLC Directors Dr Samuel Nthuni (Land Management and Administration), Brian Ikol (Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolutions), Joel Ombati (Valuation and Taxation) among other members of the secretariat.
