The National Land Commission is dedicated to carrying out its role of administering and managing public land on behalf of the County and National governments, which brings Mandera County’s ideal one step closer to reality. Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif visited the National Land Commission today to talk about regularising Mandera township plots and how they can monitor the allotment process’s implementation before the end of the year.
During the meeting, NLC Chairman Gershom Otachi stressed the value of the allocation exercise. He said that most counties don’t value the planning process, so they forget that when individuals receive letters of allocation, their county is transformed and revenue grows. He complimented the Governor on his excellent work for the community and responded by saying that the Commission is eager to complete the allocation process and carry on the collaboration.
CEO NLC Kabale Tache commended the Governor for his good work in the community and stressed the need for other counties to follow suit in supporting their local communities with land acquisition.
Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif of Mandera expressed gratitude to the Commission for their excellent work and collaboration, noting that they had acquired professional assistance from NLC with land-related issues. He said that the land allotment initiative began in 2008 when they discovered they had no titles in Mandera and asked the minister to assist in town planning. The disagreements and fears among the residents led them to make this decision. 8600 pieces of land are being prepared for allotment letters.
The governor requested the Commission to value the properties fairly and with consideration, as the owners are extremely low-income. Additionally, he asked the Commission to expedite and carry out the procedure since there is no disagreement in this regard; they identified beneficiaries and reached an agreement with the community.
Commissioners Alister Murimi, Hon. Kazungu Kambi, Hubbie Hussein, Reginald Okumu, Hon. Esther Mathenge, County Executive Committee Member’s (CECM’s) Ibrahim Adan (Finance) and Salah Ibrahim (Lands) and other senior management staff were present during the engagement at NLC Headquarters in Nairobi.
