Mary Kamene Ngundo
Mary Kamene Ngundo (MKIP) is a seasoned land governance professional with 17 years of experience in physical and land use planning, strategic leadership, public administration and policy implementation. She plays a key role in advancing the Commission’s constitutional mandate of monitoring and oversight over land use planning and to conduct research related to land and the use of natural resources, and make recommendations to appropriate authorities, with particular focus on strengthening compliance, sustainable land governance and effective implementation of planning & research frameworks.
Throughout her career, Mary has held senior leadership roles at both national and county levels, including serving as Deputy Director Land Use Planning, National Coordinator of NLC County Offices, County Director of Physical Planning in Kericho County and a Senior Planner at the Ministry of Lands. Her experience spans land use planning, research, strengthening intergovernmental coordination, institutional management, policy and regulatory compliance and land dispute resolution. Notably, Mary co-authored an award-winning research paper, “Redesigning Hammarkullen Tram Stop in Hammarkullen, Gothenburg, Sweden and monitored the preparation of the first Marine Spatial Plan in the country
She holds a Master of Arts in Project Planning and Management and a First Class Honours Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning from Maseno University and undertook a Master’s Exchange Programme in Design for Sustainable Development at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) at the University of Nairobi.
Mary is a Registered Physical Planner, Corporate Member of the Kenya Institute of Planners, Member American Academy of Project Management and Judiciary Accredited and Certified Mediator. Her professional passion lies in promoting sustainable and responsive land use planning, Research, good governance, Alternative Dispute Resolution with a strong commitment to public service and sustainable national development.
