Alister Murimi Mutugi

Commissioner

Alister Murimi is a seasoned Real Estate and Construction sector expert, with over twenty years’ experience, and is widely experienced in the areas of Valuation, Property & Facilities Management, Construction Project Structuring and Management as well as Site Acquisition for GSM networks.  He holds a Master of Business Administration in Construction and Real Estate, from the Henley Business School, of the University of Reading, UK; Bachelor’s Degree in Land Economics from University of Nairobi (1996); Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors – Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management, 2007 from the College of Estate Management; and is a full member of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), 2001, Registered Valuer (2003), and Registered Estate Agent (2004). He is currently pursuing membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He has acquired various diplomas and certificates related to Valuation, Finance, Planning and Management. He is also a current student of M.Sc. Finance (University of Nairobi).

Alister founded Ark Consultants Limited, a Real Estate Consulting firm, in 2004 and assumed Director and Head of Corporate Real Estate Services position. Prior to 2004 he previously worked at GIMCO Limited (1996 to 2000), GIMCO Africa Ltd (2000 – 2002) and CBRE International (2002 – 2004). He has been in charge of management of various Commercial, Industrial and Residential Property Portfolios in Kenya and the wider East Africa region.

Alister previously served as member of the inaugural Board of Directors of the National Transport & Safety Authority, (2013-2015). He also served as Member of Council of University of Kirinyaga, (2017-2023) Council & Chairman of Kerugoya-Kutus Municipal Board, (2018-2019).

Alister also serves on other private boards and committees including Member of Board of Directors of Wakiba Investments Limited, a private Equity Fund, (2021 to present); Member of Committee at Muthaiga Golf Club, House Committee (2022-2023) & Legal & Development Committee, (2025 & ongoing)

Having worked and served in diverse fields in the Real Estate sector, and built competencies around Project Management, Negotiation, Leadership and Problem solving; Alister Murimi brought a wealth of knowledge to the Commission in matters related to Land Economics & Management, Valuation and Sustainable Development in the Land sector.

Alister chairs the Commission’s Committee of Land Valuation & Taxation; and also serves in Committees of Legal & Alternative Dispute Resolution, Human Resources & Administration; Finance & Corporate Planning, and Communications, Technologies & Partnerships.  He also serves on the special Historical Land Injustice panel committees, as planned.

Alister has a passion in sustainable land development and has an interest in unlocking land value through innovative financing.  PPP’s is thus a current and future area of his interest. He previously headed the Kenya Real Estate Index Association, a non-profit making organization that spearheaded Kenya’s efforts to develop a Real Property Index, in 2005 -2006, for more transparency in land dealings.

Alister also has an interest in community development and mentorship of young professionals and youth cadres.

Alister is married with two children.
